New Delhi: Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has vowed to proceed with a planned protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10, despite police restrictions and alleged detentions of supporters ahead of the demonstration.
In a statement posted on X on Friday, Dipke claimed that thousands of young people had been detained across the country ahead of the planned protest. He accused the government of attempting to intimidate demonstrators and said the movement would continue despite the restrictions.
The protest is being organised to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in voter-list revisions. The allegations have been raised by Dipke and other critics of the Election Commission.
The Delhi Police has denied permission for the October 10 demonstration, stating that the organisers did not submit their application within the required timeframe. Police have also cited prohibitory orders in the New Delhi district.
Dipke, however, has maintained that the protest will go ahead, arguing that Jantar Mantar is a designated protest site. He and other CJP members have indicated their willingness to face arrest rather than abandon the planned demonstration.
The proposed march comes amid growing political tensions over voter-list revisions and demands for greater transparency in the electoral process. The Election Commission has maintained that voters whose names have been removed incorrectly can seek re-enrolment while the process remains ongoing.
The situation remains tense ahead of Saturday’s planned protest, with the authorities restricting the demonstration and organisers insisting that their campaign will continue.
Abhijeet Dipke announced on X that the protest would continue despite the detention of supporters.Thousands of youngsters have been detained across country by the BJP Govt ahead of our October 10 protest.
This intimidation is not going to work, Modi. The youth of this country are no longer scared of you.
I’ll be landing in Delhi tomorrow and will march to Jantar Mantar, come what may.
