New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, with the two leaders discussing India-Iran relations, long-term cooperation and the prevailing situation in the region.
Prime Minister Modi described the meeting as particularly significant as it marked President Pezeshkian’s first visit to India.
“Happy to have met Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran. This visit is more special because it is his first visit to India,” Modi said following the meeting.
India-Iran friendship discussed
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the longstanding friendship between India and Iran and the importance of taking bilateral relations forward through a long-term and mutually beneficial strategy.
Modi said that both sides believe India and Iran should continue working together on the basis of shared interests and practical cooperation.

India reiterated its commitment to efforts aimed at achieving enduring peace and stability in the region, according to Modi.

The Iranian side also emphasized the importance of strengthening communication and cooperation among BRICS member countries, particularly in the economic and financial sectors.
Iran stressed the need to develop stronger channels of communication among BRICS members to expand economic cooperation and financial connectivity.
Strategic agreements between India and Iran
The discussions also highlighted the importance of continuing the strategic agreements between India and Iran.
Both countries have maintained longstanding political, economic and strategic relations, and the latest meeting reflects their interest in taking bilateral cooperation forward through sustained engagement.
